Caramelised jam. Lets find the things that unite, and use that energy to allow for uncomfortable conversations.
The first EUGEM transnational meeting was in Vienna, February 2020. One of the magical moments in being together as a group was in working hard together, but also in shared joy. In this case, it was sharing dishes from respective home countries that sparked joy. Andrea "Oddi" Furlan shared caramalised fig jam from his home town in Italy to have with the cheese brought by the French delegation (Anne & Élise!) The subject of gender equity is gigantic, and there is a long way for us all to go. But taking the time to find these shared moments can help build the foundation for challenging topics such as what changes and awareness needs to be in place to allow for gender equity and inclusivity.
I attended an International Women's Day event in London where Dowshan Humzah said of the subject "be comfortable with being uncomfortable." And also, "be uncomfortable with being comfortable." That was a lot of food for thought and puts the ball (disc?) in all of our courts to not be afraid to call-out if something doesn't look or sound right. Everyone has a role to play.
What's the fig jam moment with your team? Drop us a line and be a part of the conversation.
